Taking Ellie to “school” as I call it is sometimes a bittersweet moment: will she miss me? Did we get to spend enough quality time yesterday so that she doesn’t feel abandoned today? Is working worth putting her in child care? I know that these must be questions that most working parents have.
I ran back into school to drop off her lunch and found her sitting happily here in the cart-o-kids. She smiled and waved to me as I left. I know she loves this cart ride they take in the mornings because when I pick her up from school, she walks over to it and points to it as if to say, “Mommy, let’s go for another ride, please!”
I see all of the other happy, smiling babies and kids and realized this is a great place for her to be. She is interacting with other tots, she is learning from the 3-year-old sitting next to her, I get to have a professional and adult outlet. I breathe a sigh of relief as I know I’ll be back to get her in 4 short hours and that our bond will probably be strengthened by our “alone” time.
Happy Working!
